William Braaksma, M.D.

Originally from Portage, Michigan, Dr. Braaksma is a dual-fellowship-trained orthopedic surgeon specializing in direct anterior hip replacements, traditional and Mako computer-assisted robotic partial and total knee replacements, revision of failed total hip and knee replacements, traumatic injuries to the lower extremity, and general orthopedic fracture care.

After completing his Bachelor of Arts degree in biology at Albion College, Dr. Braaksma earned his doctorate of medicine with distinction from Wayne State University in Detroit. While in medical school, Dr. Braaksma was selected into the prestigious Alpha Omega Alpha national medical honor society given to top medical students across the country. He then began his residency in orthopedic surgery at Michigan State University/Grand Rapids Medical Education Partners. While in residency, Dr. Braaksma scored in the 99^th percentile of all residents in 2013 and the 98^th percentile of all residents in 2014 on the annual Orthopaedic In-training Exam (OITE).

Following residency Dr. Braaksma completed two 1-year fellowship programs. Dr. Braaksma spent 1-year at the world-renowned Harborview Medical Center/University of Washington in Seattle Washington where he completed a foot-and-ankle fellowship with a heavy emphasis on operative fixation of lower extremity fractures and total ankle replacements. He went on to complete a 1-year adult total hip and knee replacement fellowship at Cleveland Clinic Florida. While at the Cleveland Clinic, Dr. Braaksma gained experience in direct anterior hip replacements, traditional and Mako robotic computer-assisted total and partial knee replacements, and revision hip and knee replacements.

Dr. Braaksma is a board-certified orthopedic surgeon through the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery (ABOS). Dr. Braaksma is a member of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons (AAOS) and a candidate-member of the American Association of Hip and Knee Surgeons (AAHKS).

When he is not seeing patients, Dr. Braaksma enjoys spending time with his wife, three small children, and black lab. He also enjoys playing basketball, watching college football and basketball, riding his Peloton, reading, fishing, and traveling.
