Dr. Rajesh Makim Provides Advanced Nonsurgical Treatment for Dupuytren’s Contracture

Rajesh B. Makim, M.D., F.A.A.O.S., a board-certified orthopedic surgeon at Orthopedic Associates of Port Huron, is offering XIAFLEX injections as a nonsurgical treatment option for patients with Dupuytren’s contracture. Patients who would like to learn more or schedule an appointment at the practice’s office at 940 River Centre Drive in Port Huron are encouraged to call (810) 985-4900.

Dupuytren’s contracture is a hand deformity that slowly progresses over time and affects the tissue within the palm. As it progresses, knots of tissue start to form and build up until a thick cord is created. This cord pulls the fingers inwardly, reducing normal hand function and limiting mobility.

XIAFLEX is an injection used to treat Dupuytren’s contracture. Injected straight into the collagen cord that is restricting the mobility of the fingers, it provides the following benefits to patients with Dupuytren’s contracture:

  • Ability to avoid surgery.
  • Brings mobility back to the affected fingers.
  • Provides relief within a few days.
  • Works to break down the cord by targeting the collagen.

“I am committed to offering residents of Port Huron and the surrounding areas access to the latest and most advanced evidence-based treatment options,” says Dr. Makim. “That’s why I am proud to offer XIAFLEX injections to treat patients with Dupuytren’s contracture and get them back to doing what they love without the need for surgery.”

In addition to XIAFLEX injections, Dr. Makim specializes in providing sports medicine care for a variety of bone, joint and muscle injuries and conditions. He received his medical degree from the University of Michigan Medical School in Ann Arbor. After medical school, Dr. Makim completed an internship and orthopedic surgery residency at the University of Michigan Health System, also in Ann Arbor.
