Employees’ generosity shines in Port Huron

Orthopedic Associates of Port Huron donates funds for backpacks

PORT HURON, Mich. (August 2009) – Employees at Orthopedic Associates of Port Huron continue to show their dedication and generosity to the community. Employees have again instigated a special monetary collection for the “Back to School” fundraiser coordinated through the Women’s Initiative of the Community Foundation of St. Clair County. Through snack sales and an office e-mail encouraging employees to donate to the cause, employees alone helped raise $650 for 50 backpacks.

“When I heard they (the foundation) lost major sponsors, I thought we could do our part.” says employee, Diane Dmytryshyn. “In the stream of things, the backpacks just make a ripple. But lots of ripples make waves.”

The Women’s Initiative of the Community Foundation is a nonprofit organization that provides charitable and philanthropic services. Through the help of the Community Foundation and The Salvation Army, over 10,600 backpacks have been distributed to children since 2003. The focused event was developed to help prepare children for a successful start to the school year.
