Mother-Daughter Duo Undergoing Knee Replacement on Same Day at Blue Water Surgery Center

Dorcas T. and Tonya T. of Clyde, Michigan, had a unique Mother’s Day this year. Both mother and daughter-in-law have been preparing for knee replacement surgery at the same surgery center on the same day with the same surgeon. Dr. Scott Heithoff of Orthopedic Associates of Port Huron will perform their respective procedures on May 16 at Blue Water Surgery Center at 920 River Centre Drive. The doctors and staff of Orthopedic Associates of Port Huron plan to present a gift basket to the mother-daughter duo to mark the occasion.

Both Dorcas and Tonya have been experiencing severe knee pain, prompting the need for expert care. The mother and daughter-in-law each have a diagnosis of degenerative knee arthritis, and after seeing specialists at Orthopedic Associates of Port Huron, both have opted for joint replacement surgery.

Tonya had one knee replacement procedure six years ago, and she wanted her mother-inlaw, who is currently using a walker for mobility, to be able to experience the same relief. By having their surgeries on the same day, they will recover together and be able to provide moral support. Together, they can lean on one another throughout their care experience and strengthen each other’s rehabilitation.

“Everyone at Orthopedic Associates has been positive and nice, and they help when they can,” said Tonya. “I had them schedule us on the same day to make it less scary for [my mother-in-law], and I wanted her to get her knees done — she wants to be able to walk at her granddaughter’s wedding.”

The joint replacement surgeons of Orthopedic Associates of Port Huron offer the latest and most advanced procedures in the field at the specialized Blue Water Surgery Center. Their offerings include outpatient total knee replacement as well as personalized knee replacement with VISIONAIRE Patient Matched Technology.

“At Orthopedic Associates of Port Huron, we have integrated the best and latest techniques to make the joint replacement procedure and recovery process as smooth as possible, but it is still a major surgery,” said board-certified, fellowship-trained orthopedic surgeon Dr. Heithoff. “It is heartwarming and inspiring to see Dorcas and Tonya go through their care journey together and be able to support each other as they heal. We are so proud to serve such amazing patients.”
