St. Clair Man Does 60-Mile Hike, 5-Mile Climb After Treatment With Dr. Scott Heithoff

Marvin R., 68, is a husband, a father of seven, a grandfather of three, Boy Scout troop leader, and a financial counselor. He also has arthritis and joint degeneration, and he is a patient of Dr. Scott Heithoff

Marvin has never had joint surgery thanks to help from Dr. Heithoff, his care team at Orthopedic Associates, and plenty of Marvin’s own determination. He also just backpacked in Glacier National Park in Montana before climbing Mount Katahdin in Maine.

“All I can say is Orthopedic Associates hires the best doctors they can possibly find, and they are not afraid to spend money on technology which helps them with diagnosis and treatment,” says Marvin. “I am very impressed with Orthopedic Associates, especially Dr. Scott Heithoff.”

Having worked with the staff, physical therapy team, and doctors at Orthopedic Associates for years, Marvin has been able to stay extremely active while also forgoing surgery. With more years, however, he has started to feel more strain.

“I was in lots of pain,” Marvin said. “I had difficulties with climbing stairs, let alone hiking 60 miles.”

Yet, in August, Marvin did hike 60 miles in Glacier National Park with his son and Boy Scout troop.

Only weeks later in September, Marvin took on Mount Katahdin with another one of his sons. Together, they climbed past the tree line and into rough rocks through rain and 40 mph winds. Despite the difficult weather, Marvin still hiked and climbed over 5 miles.

Marvin explained that he “never could have done any of this without Dr. H and staff at Orthopedic Associates!”

Determined as ever, Marvin is far from done with his treks. He has set his sights on trekking somewhere in New Hampshire for October, and he has plans to return to Mount Katahdin to reach the peak another day.
